Board reviews instructional-programs monitoring report, asks for clearer, public-facing summaries

Redmond SD 2J board members spent the bulk of the work session reviewing a monitoring packet compiling evidence for 10 instructional programs and discussing how the district should present that information to the public.
Staff said the packet intentionally included a wide range of documents and links — more evidence than the district might publish annually — so the board could help decide what to highlight. Speaker 2 said the materials represent “a tip of a very big iceberg” and asked the board to suggest what the district should surface publicly. Board members recommended distilled scorecards and a shorter, digestible summary tied to district goals.
Board members pressed staff on timing and data. Several said presenting the monitoring report closer to formal goal-setting and to additional winter assessment data would provide more usable trend information; Speaker 2 suggested February as a practical target so the board could see winter diagnostic results. The board also discussed where materials should live online: staff said some documents are shared internally or with parents but not broadly posted on the district website, and they will clarify which items are draft and which are public records.
Members also discussed professional development and how the district connects PD to observed needs in classrooms: Speaker 2 described regular feedback from principals and teacher leaders and iterative PD design that is adjusted mid-course based on participant input. Board members asked that monitoring reports include disaggregated subgroup data (attendance, graduation, program enrollment) and that staff indicate which indicators align with board priorities.
What’s next: staff will refine the monitoring packet into board-requested scorecards and a public-facing summary and aim to present a fuller monitoring update after additional winter assessments are available.
