Indian Head Park commits to matching funds for Sacajawea Park redesign, authorizes OSLAD grant application

The Indian Head Park Board on Aug. 14 authorized the village president to execute an application for an OSLAD (Open Space Land Acquisition and Development) grant to redesign Sacajawea Park.
Administrative intern Brandon Fleisher and a consultant from Planning Resources, Inc. presented the project concept and public outreach. The village described a project budget of approximately $600,000; OSLAD would contribute 50% ($300,000) if the application is successful and the village must provide the matching local funds from the Capital Improvement Fund. Staff told trustees the village has sufficient funds in its capital improvement account to cover the match as currently budgeted.
The grant requires the village to complete the project within two years of contract signing; staff said there is typically a one-year extension available with notification to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. The consultant noted Planning Resources’ track record with similar grant work and said the application requires the board to adopt a formal resolution of authorization as part of the submission.
Trustees approved the resolution by roll call. Staff also announced a required second public meeting on Sept. 4 for the project’s public engagement process.
What’s next: Staff will include the project in the capital budget, finalize application materials and hold the Sept. 4 public meeting as part of the OSLAD process.
