Sycamore board asks advisory commission to study school-voucher impacts

The Sycamore board directed its Sycamore Advisory Commission (SAC) to research school-voucher impacts and whether the district should join a broader legal effort, Superintendent Mr. Lewis said. "I'm going to present it to the Sycamore Advisory Commission as a project for them to look into," he said.
Board members said SAC is a suitable forum because the question affects the community and taxpayers and asked that the commission report back in a timely manner if the work finishes before the school year’s end. The superintendent and treasurer also described alternative approaches: staff could collect district data from peers or a presenter could come to a board meeting, but the board favored SAC doing the initial research.
The discussion grew out of community inquiries and a multi‑district lawsuit in the state concerning vouchers and school funding; the board did not make a formal decision about joining any legal action at this meeting and asked for factual reports on costs, pros and cons before any board action.
