Sycamore schools on Monday introduced Jessica Schmidt as the district’s new Director of Communications and Community Relations, Superintendent Mr. Lewis told the board. "Her title is the Director of Communications and Community Relations," Mr. Lewis said, adding, "She will start September 8."
The superintendent described Schmidt’s background in broadcast journalism and podcasting and said the district expects her to focus on community engagement rather than day-to-day website updates. Mr. Lewis said building secretaries and a district trainer, Ms. Johnson, will continue to manage building web pages under a "train-the-trainer" model so Schmidt can concentrate on broader outreach.
Board members welcomed Schmidt and noted the communications office is also reviewing a recent audit by Hamilton County ESC to guide priorities. The district said website redesign work is already under way and that the front page should look noticeably different in early September.
The appointment was announced during the superintendent’s agenda item; no formal vote on the hire was recorded in the public discussion presented at the meeting. The district plans to bring Schmidt into community-facing events and to involve the board in deeper conversations about culture and climate work later this year.
