A district project manager, Chris Wasco of Nicholas Associates, told the board there was strong contractor interest and favorable pricing. The presenter said the scope includes milling and grinding of asphalt and replacement of concrete surfaces.
Board members asked whether the recommended firms had prior experience with local school configurations. Staff responded they had worked with both contractors previously, although not always within District 34, and characterized both as reputable. The board approved the resolution by roll call; staff recorded the motion as passed.
Following the vote, staff and members discussed whether favorable bids could allow the district to accelerate site work at Glen Grove School from 2027 to 2026. Staff said they instructed FGM Architects to prepare documents with the aim of sending the Glen Grove work to bid in April and bringing a recommendation to the board in May. The district indicated it maintains an annual $3 million set‑aside for capital improvements and would consider accelerating the schedule if prices remain favorable.
