The Homewood School District 153 Board of Education on Feb. 16 approved a series of consent and action items including payments, calendar adoption and personnel hires.
On the recommendation of the chief school business official, the board authorized the second payment of January 2026 bills and the first payment of February 2026 bills, approving expenditures not to exceed $2,163,504.37. The motion was seconded and carried on a roll call vote with board members answering 'yes.'
The board adopted the 2026–27 school calendar as presented by Superintendent Dr. McAlister. Key dates in the approved calendar include a staff start date of Monday, Aug. 17, 2026; student start on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026; winter break period centered on Dec. 21–Jan. 5; spring break from Mar. 20–Apr. 2, 2027; and a last day of school of Wednesday, June 2, 2027. The motion to adopt the calendar passed by roll call vote.
Following a closed executive session on a student-discipline matter, the board approved a disciplinary period for the student identified in the public record as case 2020050039, effective immediately and ending the last day of the 2025–26 school year, contingent on successful completion of an appropriate alternative placement as determined by the superintendent. The board directed the superintendent and board counsel to prepare and deliver required notices and findings.
The board approved the purchase of Carrier-brand HVAC equipment for James Hart under a Sourcewell joint-purchasing agreement, authorizing a contract not to exceed $1,000,000. Administration said Sourcewell provided the cooperative bid and identified a likely low bidder using Carrier products. The motion passed by roll call.
The board approved employment recommendations for three individuals: Nicholas Davis (RBT at Churchill), effective Feb. 10, 2026; and Danielle Hill and Diane McCracken (supervisors at Willow), effective Feb. 16, 2026. Each hire was conditioned on receipt of a satisfactory criminal background report and evidence of legal qualifications.
Other routine consent items, including approval of minutes from the Jan. 12 meeting and authorization for the chief school business official to pay customary March bills, were also approved. The meeting adjourned following approval of the full consent and action agenda.
