Public works staff said they worked with Morton Arboretum staff and the village’s tree-and-landscaping committee to develop the ordinance. The update clarifies rules and strengthens enforcement language, which staff said was necessary to proceed with a grant-backed tree-planting program this fall and spring.
Public works reported the village selected 25 planting locations for fall and is coordinating with nurseries (Spring Grove Nursery noted) to secure species and installation; because the grant requires matching funds, the village expects to spend roughly $25,000 to secure a $25,000 grant and a combined program budget of about $50,000 across fall and spring plantings.
The measure passed by unanimous roll-call vote and the village said the ordinance completion ensures the grant program can move forward.
