Murrieta rangers outline e‑bike rules, stress safety as enforcement ramps up

"E‑bicycles are pedal powered bikes with an electric motor under 750 watts," Ranger Michael Melendez told the commission, describing the classification that distinguishes legal e‑bikes from higher‑power off‑highway electric motorcycles. Melendez said devices marketed as e‑bikes by some manufacturers do not meet California's 750‑watt threshold and therefore are not permitted on city streets, sidewalks or park paths.
