Murrieta council issues awareness proclamations, honors volunteer champion and hears SoCalGas clarify gas‑replacement rumor

Mayor Cindy Warren read a proclamation declaring October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month and presented it to Marshall Hamilton, executive director of SAFE Family Justice Center. Hamilton described SAFE’s countywide services and said SAFE served about 2,500 Murrieta survivors last year and about 4,000 countywide annually; he thanked the city for police referrals and community support.
The council also read a proclamation designating October 2025 as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and invited a Susan G. Komen representative (identified in the record as Jennifer Lozano, development director) to accept and encourage participation in the More Than Pink Walk on Oct. 12.
Council Member DeForest presented the 2025 'Champion for Murrieta' award to Frank Donahoe for longtime volunteer service, including cofounding the Murrieta Field of Honor and coordinating community events; Donahoe and family members offered brief remarks of thanks.
During public comment, an Adam who identified himself as senior public affairs manager for SoCal Gas addressed a circulating rumor about gas‑service conversions. He described a state program (referred to during remarks as an AB bill) that allows a limited number of community‑level projects over multiple years and said residents would have the option to approve a replacement in their area. "Nobody's going to be taking their gas away any time soon," he told the council.
