Parent urges Stevenson board to provide dedicated practice room for girls wrestling

Rachel Sapochnika of Buffalo Grove told the board Stevenson’s girls wrestling team needs a place to practice inside the school because current arrangements require roughly 20 minutes to set up and 20 minutes to break down mats, leaving approximately an hour and 15 minutes for practice. “For the girls wrestling team, they need to have a place to actually practice in the school,” Sapochnika said, adding that if a room were provided for three months the team could set it up and take it down afterward.
Sapochnika noted Stevenson finished second out of 29 schools this past weekend despite several athletes being out with injury or illness, and said additional uninterrupted practice time would improve training and safety. Board members thanked her and directed students and parents to talk with Mr. Gobble to follow up on space availability and scheduling.
The board did not commit to reallocating a room at the meeting; staff offered to explore scheduling solutions and coordinate with athletics and facilities.
