Hibbing authorizes cooperative chip-seal agreement with St. Louis County for 2025 road work

The Hibbing City Council approved a cooperative agreement with St. Louis County to carry out a chip-seal maintenance program in 2025.
City Engineer Jesse Storey said the included list (in the council packet) covers 1.8 miles of city streets and 10.32 miles of state-aid streets that received crack sealing over the past two years. He estimated a cost of about $50,000 per mile and a $750 county project-administration fee, and provided an estimated city-street cost of $94,696.97. Storey said the project increases pavement longevity by five to seven years depending on traffic and that funding for state-aid streets can be used for those segments; the project is included in the proposed 2025 budget.
Council approved Resolution 24-0905 by voice vote so the county may proceed with assessments and detailed cost estimates.
