Summary
Staff announced the March 17 review of the parks and recreation strategic plan, a March cancellation for staff attending a statewide conference, Shoreline project briefings for April, a Feb. 28 Lunar New Year event, and a senior center solar/electrification project near completion on Feb. 20.
At its Feb. 11 meeting the City of Mountain View Parks and Recreation and Urban Forestry Board received a series of staff announcements on scheduling, projects and community programming.
Staff said the originally scheduled March 11 ERC meeting will be canceled because staff will attend the California Parks and Recreation Society conference. The department also said it is a statewide award winner and will provide more details soon. Staff asked commissioners to review a condensed 'cliff-notes' presentation ahead of the March 17 meeting, when the Parks and Recreation strategic plan will return to the board for final input before city council consideration.
Looking ahead, staff previewed an April overview of Shoreline projects and the public-safety building tree mitigation plan and said they will present options for improving the city park design process. The department also announced that the spring–summer activity guide was published online and highlighted the Lunar New Year community event scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Staff provided two operational dates: the senior center solar array and electrification project is expected to be complete by Feb. 20, at which point certain senior-center programs and the commercial kitchen’s new electric appliances will be in use; and staff said they will bring two tree appeals and the strategic plan to the board on March 17. On school-related coordination, staff reported recent meetings with the Los Altos School District about a two-acre park site near the San Antonio Road project and said they are still confirming whether LASD staging will affect the city’s design timeline; staff noted a possible park opening in 2028 depending on schedules.
Staff also told commissioners they are discussing a private-property partnership for a potential site and expect to give a public update in the next two months. The board closed by confirming the next meeting date: Tuesday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m.
