Mayor Sherry Alcapelle told council at the Jan. 29 pre-council meeting that she had appointed Karen Vitos to the Design Review Board to fill an unexpired term through July 22, 2030.
The mayor described the board's role as reviewing designs for murals and other façade or streetscape changes in the central business district to protect the physical character and historic streetscape identity. The mayor and staff named expected board members or roles: a project manager or city-designated representative, a community and economic development staff person (Janelle), a downtown property or business owner (identified in the packet as Guadalupe Barbara), a representative from the foundation (Vin Garcia) and a representative from the local council of arts (Courtney Raymond).
Council asked whether there were questions or concerns; none were raised that blocked the appointment, and members thanked those who serve on the board.
The appointment will be on the agenda for the upcoming Monday meeting for formal acknowledgement and the term listed in the communication runs through July 22, 2030.
