The Murrieta City Council on July 15 appointed John Rose to fill an unscheduled vacancy on the Planning Commission and recognized a community volunteer with the 'Champions for Murrieta' award.
The city clerk summarized the recruitment process after a resignation left a vacancy. The clerk said alternate Commissioner Sarah Sahar remained as an alternate and declined to move into the regular seat, and that one eligible applicant, John Rose (a Murrieta resident for more than three years), had completed the application and was present. The council waived a full interview after a subcommittee recommended Rose; Council member Lisa DeForest moved to appoint him and Mayor Pro Tem LaValle seconded. The motion passed unanimously 5–0. Rose thanked the council and said he would “do my very best.”
Earlier in the meeting Council member Lori Stone presented the 'Champion for Murrieta' award to Ernie Sanchez for longtime volunteer service (organizing Tour de Murrieta, youth program support and other civic activities). Sanchez accepted and thanked the volunteers and family members who support the event.
The appointments and recognition were procedural and ceremonial actions; the appointment fills a seat on the Planning Commission and will help ensure the commission maintains a full panel for land‑use advisory duties.
