The project includes a procession starting at Valley Forge National Park, multiple municipal partners providing ladder arches, an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. July 10 with presentations and a noon roll call, and a candlelight vigil honoring local veterans with speakers on PTSD.
Staff reported operational preparations: construction to begin July 9; volunteer coordination (168 slots, 165 filled at time of meeting); in-kind donations including flashlights and chairs; plans for accessible transport (electric carts and rented wheelchairs); coordination with county emergency planners and water authority for hydration; and contingency planning for weather and medical incidents. Chief Peoples and other staff noted an intent to minimize disruptions and encouraged residents to follow social and township channels for volunteer and visitor information.
The board praised staff and volunteers and encouraged community attendance. Because the event includes multiple municipalities and a protected route through Valley Forge, staff emphasized following federal and county permitting and safety guidance.
