The Town of Oak Ridge approved two smaller but immediate capital items: a gravel parking footprint for 18 overflow spaces at the farmhouse and an accelerated roof repair allocation for the town maintenance building.
On parking, Parks & Rec and some council members cited lack of close-in parking for farmhouse events and proposed an 18‑space gravel footprint as a first-step, cheaper alternative to full asphalt. A motion to include $20,000 in year 1 for a gravel lot was seconded and approved by voice vote; council noted the footprint could be paved later and that the gravel base would provide a low-cost starting point.
On the maintenance building, council members reported active leaks in the building’s roof and discussed shingle versus metal roofing options and longer-term durability. A motion to move $20,000 into year 1 and $30,000 into year 4 for roof repairs and siding/related work was made, seconded and carried. Council discussed potential bid strategies that could reduce costs and asked staff to seek multiple bids.
Next steps: staff will include the gravel parking and maintenance-roof line items in the draft budget, pursue estimates for final surfacing and roofing options and return pricing to council for confirmation.
