The Silver Falls SD 4J board discussed how to cast its votes in the Oregon School Boards Association elections and completed roll-call votes for several positions, with some members abstaining and no candidate in a contested race receiving the required four votes.
At the start of the meeting the board accepted the meeting agenda "as presented" after a motion and second, and later approved the consent agenda by voice vote. The procedural motions were brief and uncontroversial.
Later in the meeting the board debated a contested OSBA position. Some members said they were uncomfortable supporting a particular candidate because of the candidate's public conduct, while others said OSBA needs change and urged the board to participate in the vote. The board conducted roll-call voting; the clerk recorded votes and abstentions and will forward results to OSBA. For the contested seat no candidate received four votes, so the board did not report a winner for that position.
Board members also voted on several uncontested OSBA positions; some members abstained but a number of positions were confirmed to be submitted by the district clerk for OSBA processing. The board asked Debbie to submit the recorded results to OSBA.
