Stonebridge residents press Ferguson Township on noise from Penn State START lab expansion

During public comment June 3, a Stonebridge resident representing the Stonebridge Property Owners Association asked the Board of Supervisors to prioritize oversight of noise mitigation for Penn State’s START (steady thermal aero research turbine) Lab at 3127 Research Drive.
"We are the closest residents to this jet engine testing facilities," the resident said, and described families who are home during afternoons and evenings when turbines operate. The speaker noted prior communications with Penn State and acknowledged earlier mitigation work, but said the proposed START+ turbine and expansion raise renewed concerns over daytime and evening noise impacts on more than 200 homes plus apartments.
The board encouraged the resident to provide written contact information and said staff and planning staff (including the planning and zoning director) will follow up. "Feel free to reach out to our staff at any time," the chair said. The resident asked the township to continue rigorous oversight of noise mitigation as approvals and construction proceed.
No formal action was taken; staff said they will accept the resident's materials and pursue follow-up with the planning director and Penn State where appropriate.
