Summary
The IDA said it won a $300,000 New York State grant to support countywide brownfield evaluation and BOA designation; staff also reported stronger social-media reach, a new commercial real-estate listing page and sponsorship visibility from recent conferences.
Kirkland County’s Industrial Development Agency reported progress on brownfields and marketing outreach, highlighting a $300,000 New York State grant to support a countywide Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) evaluation and steps to promote available commercial properties.
Speaker 1 told the board the IDA was an early recipient of a $300,000 state award to evaluate brownfield properties countywide, and staff described recent site tours across several villages (including Webb, Newport, West Winfield, Ilion, Hartpemar and Dodgeville) as groundwork toward a BOA designation that could unlock additional grant funding. Speaker 5 presented maps and tailored municipal packets prepared for those communities.
On outreach, Speaker 5 presented social-media metrics for January: about 8,200 Facebook views, eight new Facebook followers, 246 page visits and 106 interactions; LinkedIn showed roughly 2,268 views, 11 new followers and 37 page visits. The agency launched a commercial real-estate page with five initial property listings, linked marketing brochures and plans to coordinate with brokers to keep listings current.
Speaker 5 also reported the IDA was a platinum sponsor at a recent EDC economic development conference and that the agency promoted the Brownfields Developer Summit. Staff said sponsorship visibility and conference outreach have generated inquiries about the countywide BOA and commercial-property listings.
Next steps recorded in the meeting include follow-up municipal outreach, continued online promotion of commercial listings and use of the $300,000 grant to identify candidate BOA parcels for redevelopment studies.
