Council approves Kenworth vactor repairs but requires maintenance records

The Imperial City Council approved a contract with Hager Municipal to repair a 2013 Kenworth vactor (an essential sewer-maintenance vehicle) but added a requirement that the city provide historical maintenance records to the council at the next meeting.
Staff said the all-inclusive repair package would cost about $45,000 and extend the vehicle’s service life by several years. Council members questioned why a full 360 inspection had not been conducted earlier and requested records of prior maintenance and daily inspection logs. One council member described routine daily inspections for other vehicles and said the city should have similar procedures for heavy equipment.
Staff responded that Hager has provided records since 2023 and that daily checks are performed; they said the repair package will include a 90-day warranty on parts and labor. Council approved the repair contract with an amendment requiring staff to present maintenance records at the next meeting; vote 4-0.
