Council approves $150,000 change order for Eaton sewer project after questions about readiness

The Imperial City Council approved change order number 2 for the Eaton Sewer Line replacement project, authorizing an additional $150,000 to cover construction activities to install a pump station and associated connections.
Public services staff said the change order is time-and-materials and that the overall project estimate remains under an original $2.5 million figure. "The request is for a $150,000. It's to cover additional construction activities associated with installation of the pump station and its full functional operations," said the staff presenter.
Several council members questioned the request as piecemeal because assembly drawings were not yet complete. "Do we know what kind of pump we're getting? Do we know how money we need?" asked a council member. Staff replied that the work includes conduit, electrical and water connections and that a construction-management engineer's estimate is within 5% of expected totals. Staff said the pump station is expected in March and that overall project completion is targeted for April, acknowledging unforeseen delays could occur.
Despite concerns, the council voted 4-0 to approve the change order.
What’s next: staff will proceed with the pump-station procurement and installation per the approved change order and continue reporting progress to council.
