Murrieta library reports rising summer participation, grant funds available for ZipBooks and meal-site programming

At the July 16 Library Advisory Commission meeting, library staff reported strong early participation in summer programs and several operational updates.
Library staff reported that the summer reading program, launched June 9, has about 890 children registered so far and staff project the program could exceed last year's total of 2,271 child participants. The library's ZipBooks program — which ships requested books to patrons and adds qualifying books to the collection — has roughly $6,000 remaining from an original $33,000 grant; staff said they expect to exhaust that funding in early July (per meeting comments).
Staff also described grant-funded "Lunch at the Library" programming that provides performers and activities at local summer lunch sites and noted that the library recently completed a staff training on compassionate de-escalation titled "Transforming Security." The library manager said a draft privacy policy is still in development and will be returned to the commission at a future meeting for review.
Commissioners thanked staff for the program work and for Friends of the Murrieta Library support, and there were no non-agenda public comments at the meeting.
