Heath said daily programs include lap walking and open gym times at the Optimum Community Center, and that two shaded outdoor pickleball courts are open for free play from 7:30 a.m. into the evening. The pool is open Monday through Saturday with scheduled lap swim, water walking and water aerobics sessions. He noted a free chess club (volunteer Jesse Oviatt), free line-dance and ballroom classes, and senior softball and horseshoes at Ken Favard Park.
Heath also highlighted upcoming events and registration details: a ribbon-cutting for Rotary Park pickleball court shades on Feb. 20, Garden Explorers for children (Feb. 20), Golden Games Trap Shooting Training (Feb. 21, hosted by Tri State Shooting Range at 4831 Boundary Code Road; fee $15, or $5 if participants bring their own ammo), and adult basketball league registration through Feb. 27 ($375 per team, $10 pay player). He pointed to larger tournaments in March, including the Dave Kopps Tournament of Champions and the AFA Bash (more than 100 teams). Heath closed by recognizing longtime park volunteers and participants who recently died.
