Board approves aquatic center completion and pool service contract, tables construction-provider list

At the Feb. 17 meeting the Bassett Unified Board of Education acted on multiple business-service items affecting district facilities.

The board accepted the notice of completion for the Bassett High School Aquatic Center and discussed warranty and maintenance planning for mechanical equipment; business staff said parts and mechanical issues would be addressed under warranty and that facilities would compile records and a maintenance plan.

The board then considered a one-year contract with California Waters Cleaning Services to provide twice-weekly pool maintenance plus chemicals. Board members raised cost concerns and asked for comparisons and alternatives, including the possibility of creating an in-house position to manage the pool long term or partnering with the city. Business staff said chemicals alone could be costly and that the district lacks existing in-house capacity for the more modern pool system; they said the proposed contract would be valid for one year and could be revisited sooner if needed. A motion to table consideration of the pool contract failed and the board approved the contract by roll call vote.

Separately, business services presented a recommended list of construction-management providers. Multiple trustees said the district should first adopt a formal construction/facilities policy manual as a safeguard and public record of procurement processes; after discussion the board voted to table the approved‑providers list pending adoption of that manual.

The board also approved the consent calendar and several other routine business items during the same session.
