Clearwater council opposes new offshore leasing, approves FDOT repainting grant and authorizes Old City Hall land conveyance

The City of Clearwater’s council on Feb. 19 adopted several resolutions with unanimous votes.
The council approved Resolution No. 26-03 authorizing a joint participation agreement between the City and the Florida Department of Transportation for grants to repaint runway and taxiway markings; Aaron Burley, Marine and Aviation Division Controller, presented the item and said it had been discussed at the Feb. 17 work session.
Separately, the council read and approved Resolution No. 26-05 opposing inclusion of new offshore oil and gas leasing off the coast of Florida in the national five-year Outer Continental Shelf leasing program. The resolution was advanced after brief council consideration and no public comment in opposition was recorded.
The council also approved Resolution No. 26-06 regarding the Old City Hall site, finding the land unnecessary for public purposes and authorizing conveyance by special warranty deed pursuant to a purchase and sale agreement. Public commenter Daniel Haluba objected to the characterization, saying the site provides free downtown parking and warning against removing that public benefit.
