Beltrami County launches community‑led park plan; commissioners to appoint steering committee

Natural Resources Management staff presented an update on Beltrami County parks on Oct. 7, 2025, and outlined plans to develop a new, community‑led parks plan to replace the 2008 document.
NRM recreational resource coordinator Laurie Clark described individual parks and amenities — Three Island Park (just over 2,900 acres with 18 miles of cross‑country trails and snowmobile trails), Ragland Park (city park, popular with families), Mississippi Highbanks (primitive campsite damaged in a recent storm), Mobile Maze (mountain‑bike and ski trails) and Grant Creek Horse Camp (equestrian campground). Wilson Hill Recreation Area (about 230 acres) was noted as a newer park not yet in the county plan.
Director Shane Foley said the planning process will be community‑led and take about a year and a half, with steering committee meetings spread over the coming months. Commissioners discussed which board members should serve and agreed to appoint representatives and alternates so the work can proceed.
