The Albuquerque Public Schools Community Engagement Committee approved revisions to its two‑year engagement calendar, adding quarterly listening sessions and a New Mexico United partnership scheduled for May 23; members also discussed outreach parameters and event logistics.
The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education Community Engagement Committee approved revisions to its two‑year community engagement and outreach calendar during a virtual meeting on Feb. 17, 2026.
Committee Chair Astorga said the calendar revisions add quarterly listening sessions and a May 23 partnership with the New Mexico United soccer team focused on district goal 3. "So then let's update this calendar to say May 23 is United Partnership, and that is gonna be focused on goal 3," Astorga said during the meeting.
Member Courtney Jackson moved to approve the calendar revisions and Member Joshua Martinez seconded. A roll call recorded "yes" votes from Jackson, Martinez and Chair Astorga and the motion carried. The committee recorded the action as an approval of the revisions to the two‑year Board of Education community engagement calendar.
Members discussed scheduling and outreach logistics before the vote. Miss King told the committee New Mexico United had requested May 23 as the date for the partnership and noted the team preferred that date over a June option. Committee members raised concerns about overlap with graduation weekend and Memorial Day; Superintendent Blakey advised the team had scheduled the date to reach more attendees while school is in session and suggested outreach strategies to support attendance.
The committee also agreed to place three listening sessions on the calendar (proposed for April, July and November) to provide focused, board‑ and administration‑hosted opportunities for the public to give input on specific themes such as safety. Chair Astorga said the sessions are intended to include administrators so the board and the public can receive "day‑to‑day information" in real time.
Members asked staff to draft parameters for outside presenters and to return a proposed process (submission requirements, frequency and selection criteria) for the next committee meeting. Member Jackson said outreach events qualify on the calendar only when at least two board members attend; staff from the board services office will support venue logistics and coordination.
The committee set a placeholder for the next Community Engagement Committee meeting on March 17, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. virtually.
