Hubbard HRA/EDA auditor reports clean 2024 opinion, far fewer findings than last year

Robert Macher of Miller McDonough told the Hubbard County HRA/EDA board that the firm's audit of the agency's 2024 financial statements resulted in a clean opinion. "In our opinion the financial statements referred to above present fairly in all material respects the respective financial position ... that's a clean audit opinion," Macher said during a presentation to the board.
Macher told board members the firm had reduced the number of material weaknesses and significant deficiencies from six in the prior year to two this year. He also said the firm documented two material audit adjustments this year and that, importantly, the report included no Minnesota legal-compliance findings, an improvement from the previous year.
Macher described standard auditor procedures, including sampling and materiality thresholds, and cautioned that audits provide "reasonable assurance" rather than absolute certainty about every transaction. Board members asked about staffing and timing; Chair Ted Van Kampen (Speaker 2) thanked the auditor and noted limited staff capacity across local committees.
Board members moved to accept the audit report as presented and to authorize submission of the finalized report for filing. The board approved the motion by voice vote; the auditor and staff agreed to resume the prior audit schedule with a plan to present the 2025 audit in 2026 (targeting a May field visit after tax season).
