Hibbing council accepts donation, approves IV pumps and turnout-gear replacement for fire department

Chief Jankila told council the purchase would supply two IV pumps for each of the four primary ambulances and that $10,000 is budgeted with the donation and remaining one-time funds covering the balance.
Chief Jankila also outlined a turnout-gear replacement program to replace 14 sets of gear from Great Plains Fire for $46,673.48. He said OSHA standards require two sets of gear per member and that gear older than 10 years must be retired; salvageable sets will be used for training and building-access drills rather than live-fire operations.
Finally, the council approved replacement of thermal imaging cameras (budgeted at $7,500; total cost $9,360 from MES equipment) after the department reported battery failures and obsolete units. All three equipment purchases were approved on voice votes; funding will come from the department's budget, the donation, and remaining one-time funds.
