Council approves $30,220 in owner-requested changes for Public Safety Building

City Engineer Mister Storey asked the council to approve Change Order No. 2 for the Hibbing Public Safety Building on Feb. 18. The change order covers additional fire‑alarm coverage in non‑sleeping areas of the building so staff can identify a fire's location, security camera layout revisions, addition of a lifeline beam in the elevator hoist way and additional furring in the elevator shaft for controls.
Storey said these were owner‑requested changes and therefore would not be charged to the contractor contingency. The project manager priced the items and the total change order amount is $30,219.69. Council approved the change order on a motion with no recorded dissent.
The approved work aims to improve alarm coverage and security camera placement and to complete elevator structural/control requirements prior to occupancy.
