Council orders field inventory after wide variance in fence bids

First Fence of Georgia submitted a larger package—described in the meeting as $49,888—covering roughly 1,400 feet of 4-foot black vinyl chain-link fencing. Councilmembers noted the two bids appear to cover different quantities and materials, and said they do not believe the proposals are directly comparable.
After discussion, the council directed staff to conduct a field inventory: identify streets/locations, count missing posts, and list exact footage of fencing to be repaired. Councilmember discussion proposed asking bidders for unit rates (per-post coring and per-foot fence costs) so staff can “back-solve” to a consistent scope and compare bids fairly.
The council voted to proceed with the inventory and to return with reconciled figures before awarding a contract. No vendor was selected at the meeting.
