The City of Lenoir opened a public hearing on Feb. 17 to receive citizen input about the city’s potential intent to apply for Community Development Block Grant — Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) funds through the Western Piedmont Council of Governments. The hearing satisfies one of two required public hearings and is valid for 12 months.
Kyle Case, representing the Western Piedmont Council of Governments, told the council that program guidelines had not yet been released and that the region anticipates eligible activities may include infrastructure repairs, housing projects and commercial district revitalization related to recovery from Hurricane Helene. Case said the city is announcing its potential intent to apply and that a second, more specific public hearing will be held once guidelines and eligible projects are known.
No members of the public offered comments during this hearing and the council closed the session. Staff said they expect to return with more information in the coming months when grant guidelines become available.
