County planning extends CEQA comment period to March 9 for new events-and-facilities ordinance

Los Angeles County regional planning staff told Topanga residents that the county is preparing a countywide events-and-facilities zoning ordinance and extended the public comment period for the notice of preparation (CEQA scoping) to March 9.
Dylan Sote, regional planning deputy, said the comment period is intended to identify the environmental topics that should be analyzed—such as noise, lighting, traffic and other physical impacts—rather than to debate specific future regulations. He encouraged residents to submit environmental concerns now and noted there will be further opportunities to address enforcement and compliance procedures later in the ordinance development process.
Community representatives and local organizations signaled they will make formal comments. Roger (a Topanga community representative) said the Topanga Town Council, chamber of commerce and other local groups plan to file input and urged residents to get on a community mailing list for updates.
Planning staff said they would attempt to provide baseline data on existing permitted event facilities before the draft environmental document is published and asked residents to frame comments around environmental effects so staff can incorporate them into the CEQA analysis. The county provided an email address and asked interested residents to submit CEQA comments by March 9.
