The Hot Springs County School District board approved routine items — the minutes of the Dec. 18, 2025 meeting, staffing recommendations, and bills and financial statements — by voice vote.
During committee reports, trustees discussed facilities and recurring expenses: the finance/building committee described plans to split roof and HVAC work into two summers, and trustees noted a discrepancy between a state figure and internal estimates for the work. Trustee (Speaker 7) said, "they are saying it will cost us but the bids actually or the estimate is actually 1,200,000.0," contrasting that with the state number of about $950,000 and noting major maintenance funds would likely be used.
The board also heard that the school lunch fund is over budget and will need an additional transfer. Trustee (Speaker 7) summarized projected figures: "I think we budgeted 60,000 and it's 75. And it's gonna be closer to 125."
Trustees approved the 2027–28 school-year calendar as presented, consistent with prior practice of approving calendars two years in advance for family planning. On policy matters, trustees approved several policy revisions on second and final reading but pulled Policy JIH for further review (see separate coverage).
No executive session was held; trustees discussed a recent security incident at the middle school and opted for continued administrative debriefing and communication with the city rather than closed deliberations.
