Board members recognized elementary and middle school spelling bee winners and honored school resource officers from multiple local law enforcement agencies during National SRO Day, presenting certificates and public thanks.
Warrick County — At its February meeting the Warrick County School Corporation Board of Trustees paused to recognize student achievements and community partners.
Jason Fisher of the Department of Learning opened the recognition segment, saying, "This is one of my favorite evenings of the year," as the board introduced elementary and middle school spelling bee champions who approached the podium to state their names, grades and schools. Parents were invited to take photographs as each student was acknowledged.
The board also honored school resource officers in observance of National SRO Day. A board speaker praised the officers, saying they "do an outstanding job for our schools and for our kids and staff members" and thanked the partnerships with the Warrick County Sheriff's Department, Boonville Police Department, Chandler Police Department, Newburgh Police Department and the Indiana State Police. Lieutenant Marvin Bruce, who oversees the SROs for the sheriff's department, was recognized by name.
Certificates were presented to officers with school assignments read into the record (including Dan Bullock, Preston Byers, Jalen Chestnut, TJ Haines, Mike Jones, Bridal McCain, Casey Miller and Matt Young). Board members invited students and families to remain for the meeting but said they understood if parents needed to leave after the recognitions.
The recognitions were followed by applause and brief congratulatory remarks from board members and administrators.
