During the public comment portion of the Jan. 27 meeting, Jonathan Castillo introduced himself as an overseer for the World Mission Society Church of God, which he said has roughly 4,000,000 members in nearly 8,000 churches worldwide. Castillo described the congregation’s community-service activities—blood drives, environmental cleanups, crime prevention awareness, disaster relief and youth education—and said the church has been in Oak Lawn for two years.
Castillo invited the board and community to an open house on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church’s location listed in the transcript as 10000 South Costner Avenue. The mayor thanked the group for its service and several youth from the congregation participated in a brief photo opportunity with the mayor.
No board action was taken; the remarks were recorded under public comment.
