Trust staff notifies retirees after duplicate 1099‑R mailings; hiring and conference updates given

Deputy Executive Director Adrian Sanchez told trustees that the trust mailed 1099‑R forms to retirees on Jan. 29 and that the city inadvertently sent duplicate copies to some retirees in early February.
"This year through that process, the city inadvertently sent out some duplicate, sent out duplicate forms to our retirees around the February. It was a complete it was an accident," Sanchez said. To reduce confusion, the trust mailed letters to retirees and placed a banner on its website instructing recipients to report pension income once when filing taxes. The trust also added a recorded phone message to inbound calls to help callers prior to staff answering.
Sanchez announced hiring activity: the benefits research assistant posting reached its applicant cap and is closed; the benefits supervisor posting remains open and will accept applications through Feb. 27 (or until the 100-applicant cap is reached). He also reminded trustees about upcoming conferences including TechSpurs in Galveston (April 26–29) and the NCPRS annual conference in Las Vegas (May 17–20).
