Board approves sheriff fees, confirms Osage representative; public-health updates announced

The Mitchell County Board of Supervisors on Feb. 17 approved several routine items, confirmed an appointment and heard public-health announcements.
Sheriff's report: The sheriff presented January fees totaling $6,062.02. The board moved to accept the report and the motion carried.
Economic development appointment: The board approved the City of Osage's nominee, Judy Vogelander, to serve on the Mitchell County Economic Development Commission, replacing Larry Moore. A motion was made, seconded and the board voted to confirm her appointment.
Fireworks permit: Supervisors reviewed a fireworks-permit application but noted the submission lacked the required insurance documentation. The board tabled the permit and directed staff to request the missing insurance information before returning the item to the board.
Public health: County public-health staff announced several items: free radon test kits are available to residents; Mitchell County Public Health and the Mitchell County Substance Abuse Coalition will sponsor a free family night at the North Iowa Bulls hockey rink on Saturday, March 21, with tobacco-free seating and free tickets via a QR code; and the county received a $10,000 tobacco-prevention grant. Staff also reported general-assistance and expense metrics (general assistance reported at 58.9% as of Jan. 31; expenses at about 40.97%) and introduced Samantha Grow, a new public-health/home-health registered nurse who started that day.
There were no public comments and the board adjourned at 09:06.
