Supervisors allocate $16,279.98 from opioid funds for regional mobile unit application

Washington County supervisors voted to provide $16,279.98 toward a regional Virginia Department of Health opioid-related application to acquire a mobile unit that will co-locate community services board (CSB) and public-health services.
Staff explained the regional application requests state opioid-abatement funds for mobile units and that the county’s proportional share of the local match is $16,279.98. County health staff said the mobile unit will be used for outreach, Narcan distribution, prevention education and referral to treatment across rural areas; it will also support events such as Fentanyl Awareness Day.
Supervisor Ball moved that the county approve the match and draw the funds from the county’s opioid-abatement fund; Supervisor Hernandez seconded and the board approved the motion. Staff noted the public-health department and Highlands Community Services will contribute additional funds and in-kind support as detailed in the application; the county’s contribution will be recorded and the application submitted to the state program.
