The Hutchinson City Council approved a beverage sales and sponsorship agreement with PepsiCo that includes Hutchinson Community College and USD 308. The deal runs through June 2030, provides upfront and annual support funds, free product cases and equipment service, and was approved by roll call.
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson City Council on Feb. 17 approved a beverage sales and sponsorship agreement with PepsiCo Beverage Sales LLC that also names Hutchinson Community College and Unified School District No. 308 as parties.
Justin Combs, the city’s director of parks and facilities, told the council the contract term runs through June 2030 and contains several revenue and in-kind provisions. "The city will receive $1,500 of initial support funds, and then additionally $11,300 annually in support funds," Combs said. The city will also receive 75 free cases of product and continued provision and service for 104 pieces of Pepsi equipment distributed across city facilities.
Combs said the agreement includes a price-protection clause limiting per-unit price increases to no more than 5% annually. He said the city and the two educational partners share facilities (Gowen Stadium and the arena), which is why the three organizations were combined into one RFP and contract.
Council members asked clerical and timing questions about the contract’s start date and which bodies had already approved it; Combs said the other two entities had already approved the agreement and the city’s signature was the remaining step. Council Member (speaker 9) moved to approve the beverage sales and sponsorship agreement and authorize the mayor to sign; the motion was seconded by speaker 5 and carried on a roll-call vote.
The full contract text was included in the council packet; Combs said staff recommended proceeding and stood for questions.
