High school students presented dozens of extracurricular clubs, and the board honored the competitive cheer squad, band festival qualifiers and multiple students and staff with 'Student/Employee of the Month' awards.
Students presented an overview of extracurricular opportunities to the Ambridge Area School District board on Feb. 18, highlighting clubs from student council and National Honor Society to Ecology, Interact, TSA, newspaper and arts groups.
A student presenter told the board the student council has worked with administrators on events such as Strive for 5, a Pride Store and holiday planning and described community service efforts including a winter clothing drive. "Our student council is dedicated to supporting both our student body and our community," the presenter said.
The board also recognized the Ambridge competitive cheer squad for a highly successful season led by senior captains Marina Baker and Amari Seymour, noting first-place finishes in regional competitions and a top-four showing at PIAA States. Band students who earned District 5 recognition were named and two qualifiers (Samantha Washak and Lana Holcomb) were announced as advancing to PMEA Regionals.
In staff recognitions, Paul Heladio and other employees were named staff members of the month across schools; principals and board members read tributes describing nominees' work with students and colleagues. The board urged community attendance at upcoming events, including the school musical.
The presentations and recognitions occupied the beginning portion of the meeting and the board paused to allow photographs and refreshments for honorees before continuing with business.
