Senate welcomes mock-trial champions, Arts Day advocates and professional delegations

The Senate opened with ceremonial remarks and a series of recognitions. The senator from Edgefield introduced and asked the reading clerk to publish the names of the Johnston-Edgefield-Trenton Middle School students who won the middle‑school mock‑trial state championship, and he thanked coaches and volunteer attorney coaches, including Patrick Newsome, Dr. Patricia Mosley and Blair Massey.

Senators also recognized South Carolina Arts Day and invited colleagues and the public to events on the State House steps featuring performances and advocates, while multiple other students and professional delegations — including Palmetto State Teachers Association student chapters and the South Carolina Recreation and Parks Association SC Lead class — were introduced and welcomed to the gallery.

Senators noted the civic and educational value of these programs and encouraged continued legislative support for arts, education and recreation programs that contribute to local economic activity and student development.
