Committee members said subcommittee testimony included representatives of the Greenville County Sheriff's Department, a widow of a fallen officer and the group Upstate Warriors, and that the federal government has recognized a 'Gold Shield' concept but had not designated a specific date. Committee members said they expected no fiscal impact from the designation and that the measure passed unanimously out of subcommittee.
The committee adopted the motion to report the bill favorably by voice vote with no opposition and the measure moves to the full Senate for consideration. Senator Elliott of Greenville was identified in the hearing as the sponsor who filed the bill in the Senate.
