Corona City Council pulled a library furniture purchase for additional information about warranties and shipping costs and approved a state grant to revive a summer meal program at the Corona Public Library.
Council Member Tony Daddario objected to a proposed purchase of custom library furniture and high shipping charges, saying he could not tell from the staff report whether the vendor was a consolidator or the actual manufacturer and that warranty details were missing. Daddario said he would prefer the warranty information factored into the agenda before a vote. Library Manager Danielle Whittingham told council the furniture is specially made to withstand heavy use and that staff would follow up with warranty details. Council voted to pull the item for further review so that warranty information can be provided before any final purchase decision.
Separately, the council accepted $12,600 in grant funding from the California State Library to host Lunch at the Library at Corona Public Library from June 8 to July 30. Whittingham said the city will partner with CNUSD Child Nutrition Services, which will supply the meals at no charge; the $12,600 award covers supplies and materials (paper goods and certification costs), paid teen volunteers (listed in the staff presentation as stipends), and enrichment programs such as family-friendly movies and performances. The staff presentation noted the library previously participated in the program from 2018–2021 and served over 8,000 meals; in 2025 CNUSD reduced meal sites and the library applied to restore a local site.
Council members asked for clarification about the food source and time frame; staff confirmed CNUSD provides the food and that lunch would be served Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30–2:30 p.m., with an expectation to serve about 100 lunches per day. Council approved accepting the grant.
Next steps: Staff will return warranty information on the furniture purchase before council votes on that item. The library will proceed with administrative steps to implement the Lunch at the Library program and coordinate teen volunteer recruitment and background checks as described in the staff presentation.
