MassDOT selects Hamden bridge for no‑cost repair program

Town staff told the Select Board that MassDOT selected the Hamden Mill Road bridge over the Scantic River for the first round of the Municipal Rapid Repair and Replacement (FAIR) program.
Speaker 2 said MassDOT will design, procure and administer the construction work at no cost to the town and that the program is a repair (not a full replacement) initiative. Board members welcomed the news and discussed other local bridges they might nominate for future rounds; Speaker 2 said the town’s Main Street bridge is also in need and that other bridge work (South Road) will be advertised for bid this year.
The board asked staff to follow up with project timelines and public‑notification needs once MassDOT posts construction schedules and bid documents.
