Union that backed Measure 119 asks legislature to repeal it, citing legal risk

House Bill 4,162 would repeal ballot Measure 119 (2024), which requires certain Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission licensees to enter into labor peace agreements with labor organizations representing employees.
Mike Salvaggio, representing United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555, told the committee his union worked to place Measure 119 on the ballot but now supports legislative repeal. He said a split decision in federal district court risks creating Supreme Court litigation that could be used against working people and the union prefers to "mute that" risk by repealing the measure and continuing to pursue the goals through other means.
Committee members asked no substantive follow‑up during the brief hearing. The public hearing was closed.
