Lewiston council authorizes city staff to begin negotiations with police union

The Lewiston City Council authorized the city to begin negotiations with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lewis-Clark Lodge No. 10 for a new collective bargaining agreement that would take effect Oct. 1 following the current contract—s September 30 expiration.
Human Resources Director Nikki Provence explained the standard process: the union contacted the city to request negotiations; the council must give direction to staff to begin bargaining. Councilor Forsman moved to authorize negotiations; Councilor Wright seconded. The motion carried on roll call with one "Nay" from Councilor Klein and the remainder voting in favor.
The authorization allows staff and appointed council representatives to open formal talks with the union; specific bargaining subjects, timelines and negotiating team members will be determined through the city—s internal process and discussed with council as appropriate.
