County Manager Tim Sutton announced at the start of the Aug. 20 meeting that he will resign effective Sept. 13. "I will be resigning as county manager effective September 13," Sutton told the board in brief remarks, adding that a replacement would be on the Sept. 4 agenda and he would not be making a formal farewell at that time.
Commissioners and several members of the public reacted in the meeting’s comment period, expressing thanks and concern. Multiple commenters—including Melody Keith and Tom Waters—praised Sutton’s service and urged the board to prepare for a careful selection process. Chair and commissioners noted they will move forward with agenda items related to succession planning and that the county manager’s office will remain engaged during the transition period.
The announcement came early in the meeting during the commissioner manager comments section and was treated as an administrative item; the board did not take immediate personnel action at the hearing. Commissioners said they will place a replacement item on Sept. 4 and will follow usual procedures for hiring and transition.
No additional personnel actions were taken during the Aug. 20 meeting; staff said an item for replacement would appear on the Sept. 4 agenda.
