Nye County orders cleanup of eyesore at 1680 South Flag Road, sets Nov. 30 deadline

The Nye County Board of Commissioners unanimously declared 1680 South Flag Road in Pahrump a public nuisance on Nov. 7 and directed staff to pursue abatement procedures with a compliance deadline of Nov. 30, 2024.
Planning and code staff reported the case traces to 2018, with multiple citizen complaints and a citation issued in April 2021. The owner failed to appear at subsequent bench-trial proceedings, and staff said a bench warrant remains outstanding. The department posted an abatement notice on Oct. 7, 2024, the most recent administrative step.
Neighbors who addressed the board described visible public-health hazards. Janine Yeager said she can see the property from her 94-year-old mother's backyard and described long-standing abandoned vehicles and apparent rodent infestations. "If there is ever a fire...that fuel can explode," Yeager said, adding that elderly and disabled neighbors could be at risk.
Staff said the property lacks sanitation, water and power. The district attorney's office confirmed the bench trial and outstanding warrant and recommended a short compliance timeframe given prior failures to participate in the legal process. The board required abatement procedures, allowed staff to seek a special assessment to recover abatement costs, and approved a compliance date of 11/30/2024.
Commissioners asked staff to track and report abatement costs; staff said they would coordinate with the comptroller to present cost details to the board.
