Summary
Staff told the Rockingham County Board of Elections that several precincts and polling locations were relocated for the upcoming election; early-voting totals through day four were 2,828—higher than comparable 2024 days—and staff said the mailing of new precinct cards cost $11,426.80.
At its Feb. 17 meeting the Rockingham County Board of Elections announced multiple early-voting and election-day site changes and reviewed early-turnout data showing increased participation compared with the same period in 2024.
Staff listed site moves: Eden early voting moved from Eden Library to Eden City Hall; Reed/Reidsville site changes; Draper moved to Mill Avenue Recreation Center; Eaton moved to Douglas Elementary School; Eaton Central moved to Moorhead High School; and several precincts were renamed after boundary adjustments. Staff explained precinct renaming is required when boundary lines change.
The director reported 2,828 total early voters as of day four with site counts of Eden 683; Reidsville 735; Wentworth 755; and Western 655. Staff stated the county is ahead of comparable early-voting days in 2024 and will continue to evaluate impacts of the precinct moves on turnout.
Staff also told the board the cost to mail new precinct cards for the recent changes (Draper, Eden Central, Eden, Reedsville 1, and Reedsville 2) was $11,426.80 (cards plus postage). The director said current funds cover that expense but that a budget amendment to increase the postage line item will probably be needed.
The board asked staff to prepare comparison numbers for a future agenda item so the board can evaluate whether relocations should be reconsidered after the election.
